Over on 5GHz, we managed to pull in 434 Mbps with the USB-AC68, second only to the PCE-AC68. The ASUS USB-AC68 certainly is one of the best looking adapters on the market.
IT WORKS PERFECTLY. I've tested it for a day now. It is for Realtec chipsets which ASUS used for the models mentioned above. You do have to have the driver installed that came with Windows 10 insider build, so if you've done a lot of messing around uninstall and reinstall that one.
Download the file at this link:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWORK-CARD/REALTEK/Realtek-Wireless-USB-Network-Adapter-Driver-1030-13-704-2016.shtml
Once downloaded extract the .zip file and scan contents.
Then in Windows 10 right click Start and select Device Manager from the menu that appears.
In Device Manager expand Network Adapters and then right click on ASUS USB-AC56 802.11ac Wireless USB Adapter (or AC56R or AC68 if you have those) and pick Properties.
In Properties click the Driver tab.
Now click Update Driver.
Click Browse my computer for driver software.
Navigate to where you unzipped the files. Make absolutely sure to pick the right folder for the system you have (32-bit or 64-bit) and version of Windows (Win 10 64-bit is Win10x64 folder for instance). Click okay once the right folder for your machine is picked. You do not have to find the file just select the right folder and click Ok.
The driver installs. Give it time to resolve itself. The Wi-Fi will connected, disconnect, reconnect, disconnect and finally reconnect, and poof you're off to the races. When you have a solid Wi-Fi connection the process is done.
Tuck that zip away for future use. As I understand this was created by a guy that was sick and tired of waiting for ASUS or Microsoft or Realtec to get it right so he designed it himself
